⚠️ Web MIDI does not work on mobile browsers. Web MIDI is not supported on iOS or Android browsers. Use the apps listed below instead.

Adapters you will need (not in the box)

• iPhone or iPad (Lightning port). Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. Available from Apple for around €29. Cheaper third-party alternatives work. Playtronica also sells a Lightning adapter.
• iPhone or iPad (USB-C port). Any USB-C to USB-A adapter. Modern iPads and iPhone 15 and later use USB-C. Playtronica sells a USB-C / Micro-USB combo adapter that covers both ports.
• Android phone. A USB-C OTG adapter. Most modern Android phones support USB Host Mode. Check your phone's specifications first.

How to connect

1. Plug the adapter into your phone.
2. Plug your Playtronica device into the adapter.
3. Open a MIDI-compatible app from the lists below. The app detects the device automatically.

iOS apps

Koala Sampler — recommended

Record any sound with your microphone, then play those samples from your Playtronica device. Fast, fun, addictive. Free on the App Store with in-app upgrades. Strong choice for Playtron + TouchMe.

Dawnbeat — Koala alternative

iPad and iPhone sampler very similar to Koala. Continuously records pad events so you can experiment freely, then save what you like. Strong MIDI support.

GarageBand iOS — free

A full DAW. Supports external MIDI automatically. Large instrument library. Works well with TouchMe and Playtron. The drummer and keyboard tracks are a good starting point.

King of FM

DX-style FM synth on iOS. Rich, classic sounds. Good with Orbita.

AudioKit Synth One — free

A powerful open-source synthesizer. Good with TouchMe.

Elastic OSC — paid

Made by friends of Playtronica. Very good sound. Worth the price if you want a more cinematic palette.

FluidSynth — recommended

Popular with our Android users. Select your Playtronica device at the top of the screen. Wide selection of instrument sounds. Free.

Koala Sampler — Android

Same app as iOS, same community. Strong choice on Android too.

Basic and reliable. A good choice for quick tests and verifying that the device is working.

PerfectPiano

Simple and straightforward. The violin sound is especially good with plants and TouchMe.

SynprezFM

More advanced FM synthesis. For users who want to explore sound design on Android.

🤝 Other Playtronica users have probably hit this before. The Playtronica Friends Facebook group has 4,400 members and is the fastest source of creative and technical help.
