⭐What is Playtronica?

Playtronica makes small devices that turn everyday objects into music. Touch a plant, a glass of water, or a friend's hand — and a note plays. Some devices read the small electrical signals in your skin. Others read the bio-electrical signals of a houseplant. One is a self-playing sequencer that rotates.

We have been doing this since 2014. We started with workshops where children made music from cactuses. We are now a small studio with team members in Berlin and Paris. Our devices are bare circuit boards by design — no plastic case.

There are five devices:

• TouchMe — touch two gold pads with bare skin. Notes play. The simplest device.
• Playtron — clip alligator wires to anything that conducts electricity (fruit, water, foil, skin). Touch the object to play.
• Biotron — clip leaf-pads to a houseplant. The plant plays the music.
• Orbita — a round device with a motor. It plays a step sequence by itself.
• Scales — place an object on the plate. Heavier objects play higher notes.

Every device works with the music software you probably already have: Ableton, Logic, GarageBand, FL Studio. If you do not have music software, synth.playtronica.com is a free browser-based synth that works with every Playtronica device.

Two things to know first

• You need Brave or Chrome for the browser synth and our settings tools. Safari and Firefox do not support Web MIDI yet.
• Each device is a bare circuit board. It is durable, but the metal pins can corrode if you leave them in contact with wet objects for a long time. Wipe the pins dry after sessions with water or fruit.
